Thinking About: Reinvention

Reinvention is a word I’ve heard and read often in the last few months, and it feels particularly relevant now.

It seems to be a time of life for many of us where perhaps kids are all grown up, grandchildren on the way, career changes (voluntary or not) or retirement are imminent, and rather than slowing down we’re looking ahead and asking “what’s next?”

It’s an exciting (and a little bit scary) time, but the good news is that we have some experience under our belts, we’ve lived through some ups and downs, and often have more confidence and inner resources to marshal now than when we were younger. We’ve come to realise what a precious gift Time is, and are determined not to squander it. Looking ahead, my goal is to motivate myself to posting more frequently and regularly.

Some of the things I will aim to do during my Reinvention:

  • The important thing is to remain open to new friendship opportunities.

‘Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever’

  • I will do some freelancing/consulting work in my field for a while in order to wind down more gently.

  • One of the gifts I will give to myself is to get healthier. My first hurdle will be to recover from a third cardiac ablation and that’s a whole journey to write about. Recovery from ablation is best taken slowly so that will give me lots of writing time!

An interesting blog about both writing and living with AF, by a fellow sufferer,Janco.

Then I will be back on the road to discover all that Yorkshire has to offer in indie food and drink businesses, complete visits to delightful gardens, and travel…and get back my mojo.

Mojo’ refers to your self-confidence, self-esteem, self-efficacy, or even sex appeal. Dr Evil, Austin Powers’ nemesis in the Austin Powers film series, defines mojo as

‘The libido. The life force. The essence. The right stuff. What the French call a certain ‘I don’t know what’.
