The Fourth Week of December

Updated: Sep 1, 2018

I had a simple and happy Christmas spent with my family. We don’t do fancy. It’s just a lovely jumble of traditions that we all hold dear. I appreciate the time and effort my goslings put into being together with Granny Goose.

And after the indulgence of Christmas came the frosty, and sometimes snowy and bright days – full of good intentions and plans for the new year just waiting in the wings.

This view really captures that feeling perfectly, don’t you think? Thinking, strolling!

I quite like Twixtmas, a calmness and time to get totally organised for January and the New Year, gathering thoughts on places to visit and holidays for 2018, and quiet times to remember loved ones no longer here.

This week I have also enjoyed…

Watching… Little Women on BBC1. This was a lovely three-parter – just what I needed! A poignant and funny version of Louisa May Alcott’s 1869 novel which made the four March sisters seem like exciting new creations and old friends….and the single best thing on TV this Christmas.

Reading… All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. It’s our book club read and I’m gripped! It is about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive World War II. It is set in St Malo and having been there in September it is easy to feel the devastation that the Americans rained down on the city. Perfect escapism for reading at this time of year.

ShoppingI don’t do the madness of post-Christmas sales, but have enjoyed a cuppa tea and browsing the sales on my fav websites.

My newest discovery is Fabled, the beauty store of the magazine Marie Claire. My bargains in the photo above arrived with my Ocado shopping, so easy!

What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? A low-key night in or a spangly sequinned affair?

I’m all for a ‘quiet’ New Year at my local pub and followed by a traditional panto on New Year’s Day.

Have a wonderful time however you choose to mark it.

Happy New YearGodt Nytt År!
