The best things I bought this year
Updated: Sep 1, 2018
Hoping you all had a gorgeous Christmas and are looking forward to the dawn on 2017. As you may have noticed from the title, today’s post recaps some of my favourite purchases of the year.
This has been a difficult year in many ways, being unwell and all that, but I have appreciated even more the chances to get out and about and also to just enjoy being at home.
If we’re talking from a wholesome, cost per use, enjoyment perspective then it’s got to be my membership to The National Trust.

I’ve enjoyed a few trips to Fountains Abbey, Beningborough Hall, and Goddard’s in York which was the home of the chocolate family, Terrys. I have enjoyed the gardens which are beautiful and provided me some inspiration. And of course, the tea shops. The plan is to next year tick off some more National Trusts.

From a completely selfish perspective (because there have been some very boring practical purchases this year, along with lots of lovely things for my new grandson) something that has really brought a smile to my face is my letterbox flower subscription from Freddie’s Flowers. I’m getting a beautiful and cost effective pretty fix fairly regularly now and I love the entire concept. A family run business which carefully packages and delivers British grown blooms direct from the grower – what could be better? It’s safe to say this purchase will be continuing into 2017.
As I type, not quite literally, I have started to make a cot quilt for my grandson, (one suitable for him to take to Uni when he is 18), but I needed a new sewing machine to do a proper job. So I have heavily invested my time in a Janome Model 525S, as used on the Great British Sewing Bee programme on TV last year. And this will go on to be my project for 2017.
I know I am really getting into the wonderful world of being a Granny, but before his arrival, I bought wool to knit him a baby blanket. And pleased it turned out to be one of my successful projects of the year.

This bag had to be the best buy for my dear cat, Sunshine. She lights up my life!!!!
