A gentle start to January

Updated: Sep 1, 2018

Hello 2018! I hope it’s been good for you so far.

I’m emerging from my hibernation and beginning to make my way into the new year. I love the festive season and I’m always sad to see it end. A fresh year is inspiring, but also a little scary. I’m never one to exactly leap into it.

Early January is a funny time – some people are raring to go, others are quietly melancholic as they pack away the baubles. I’m a bit of both – but my ideas and inspiration are beginning to reawaken after losing a week with a dose of being ill.

Here’s what I’m enjoying thinking about, doing and making right now. Things that are minimal, but also nourishing and gentle.

Wrapping up in ginger…

I’ve always been a lover of ginger since I was a little girl, it's soothing for tummies with its warm and spicy aroma. It’s also said to stimulate the body…that must be why I feel a craving for it when unwell. I’ve been loving Origins Ginger Soufflé Whipped Body Cream this week. And for a reviving shower or bath Waitrose Ginger and Clementine is fruity and spicy, and not expensive.

Keeping my fluids topped up has been a priority and brewing this drink has hit the spot too. My January soother, Ginger, lemon and honey!

Simply, white and yellow flowers…

After all the pomp of Christmas it’s great to get back to basics with flowers. I’m enjoying a sense of space and light and I don’t want to fill my house with too many contrasts.

A letterbox delivery from Bloom and Wild are a treat to the senses, just when you need help along this dark and dreary month.

Do a bit of clothes sales shopping?…

I can’t resist a look. My budget is limited and sales give me a chance to stock up on things from brands I love (but can’t always afford). Avoid sequins and party dresses and look for simple, versatile pieces that’ll cheer you up now and be useful all year. I’m leaning towards simple and classic, maybe a sign of feeling older and wiser! My sales shopping tips are White Stuff for beautiful bargains, Uniqlo for their limited offers, and New Look for quality basics.

Plus Molton Brown for stocking up on great hand and shower wash.

What’s on your early-January list? I’d love to know.
